Building Tour
The Awakening Center residence buliding itself is currently under contruction and scheduled for completion in June 2008. It is a 5,500 sq. ft. residence building in two distinct portions: a 16-bed dormitory with full baths between rooms and an attached 2,300 sg. ft. multi-purpose room in a safe neighborhood of upscale offices, mostly medically-related, only two blocks from a major hospital in Augusta, GA, on the bus line and 1/2 mile from the largest and newest retail shopping area in town.
Until the building is completed, residents will continue to live in leased residential housing a short distance away from the Intensive Outpatient treatment portion of the program (Steppingstones to Recovery, since 1997) as has been the case for the past two and a half years since the inception of the recovery residences. The current housing situation has worked well, but having all residents under one roof in a community setting and recovery environment will be a vast improvement to the program.
When the Awakening Center building is completed, a valuable spiritual component of the treatment process will be a reality. There will be a full-time, on-campus Manager, and a Chaplain who will conduct spirtual growth and awareness classes and lead weekly "Un-Church" celebration services on Sunday morning, followed by a covered dish dinner and family visitation.
Women are only at the Awakening Center itself on Sundays for spiritual services, and sit at separate tables than male residents. They will continue to reside in leased residential quarters until a separate dormitory is constructed at some point in the near future.
